Alberto Ruiz Villar

BIOGRAPHY

Alberto Ruiz Villar is an artist originally from Barcelona, where he currently lives and works. He graduated with a degree in graphic design from L'Escola Massana in 1996, and he has worked as an art director and photographer. Currently, he is a professor of art management at the IED and has taught workshops of the same discipline in L'Escola Massana.

In his work are signs of the crossing between maps, strata and scars; three states that are recognized in a plastic trajectory that has its origin in fear and confinement, and that aims to establish itself under a permanent threshold. His work is based on the obsessive need to represent a cartography of instinct through a language that is always understood as provisional.

Ruiz Villar has exhibited at Galería Safia and Galería Esther Monturiol in Barcelona (Spain), Galerie t in Dusseldorf (Germany), Galerie Beseda in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Galerie Michal’s Collection in Prague (Czech Republic). He has also exhibited in the galleries ‘The Invisible Line’ and Rhodes in London (UK). At his latest exhibition at Rhodes Gallery (formerly Lawrence Alkin) in London, he exhibited alongside well-known artists such as Damien Hirst and Banksy.
